Jivano's little storefront shop is full of all kinds of knives he has repaired and that he is reselling at bargain prices.
He's big and bearded and bearlike, so I was surprised when I asked him his last name and he replied, "It's just Jivano. You know, like Cher."
Jivano is one of the last great knife sharpeners in the city.
"I've seen 10 other sharpeners go under in the last 12 years," he said.
What's Jivano's edge? He fixes all kinds of blades and sharp things, as well as broken handles, often while you wait. And if you have a job that's priced at $50 or more, he'll make a house call.

This hole-in-the wall is a great place to buy an excellent second-hand kitchen knife or to get your cutlery sharpened by a master. If the shop is closed, just drop your dull blades (with phone number) through the slot in the door.
