Karlovy Vary means Karlsbad means Charles' Bath. That's the
place of my night. This is a camping place in Sadov five Kilometres away
from the city Charles' Bath. It's so boring in my job, so boring in the internet, so boring at home, so boring to watch T.V.. This two legs walking bio computer needs to watch and visit the world. Charles' Bath has attracted the intellectual high society from the last centuries: Bach, Beethoven, Dvorak, Goethe, Paganini, Chopin, Schiller and many others. Isn't this reason enough to leave my boring work and home in coming spring? When you cross Bavaria to Germany's eastern border it's a strange country. Between Munich and Nuremberg grows hops - a basic product for beer. After Regensburg less and less little villages follow. Leaving the high way for the Czech border a sign post caught my attention: 'Sybillen bath 21 Kilometres'. Never heard of the place where the Euro Millions have constructed this fabulous bath temple 'Sybillen bath' (www.sibyllenbad.de) The name of this village is 'Neualbenreuth/OPf.'' and is immediately forgotten again. The names of these little Bavarian villages are only to remember for people born and living there for generations like in Marktredwitz, Wunsiedel, etc. |

From the last little German village 'Waldsassen' I cross the border to Czech. At the border is an astonishing strange scene. One little shop after another is filled with Chinese plastic trash. Cigarettes like Marlboro and other branches look like the originals, but I guess they are not. |

The first town in Czech is 'Cheb'. The money changer gives 2412 'Crowns' for
100 Euro. Cheb has lovely buildings. 'Franzensbad' (Franz's Bath) is my next
stop. An attractive bath 'Aquaforum' with a big silent park relaxes with a
calm atmosphere of huge old trees. But too relaxing for my quarrelling
morning energy therefore 50 Kilometres more bring me to Karlsbad - 'Charles'
Bath'. |

It's hard to find a parking place next to the train station, but I get one.
In the train station is the Tourist Information. The young lady at the desk
is strange: She is neither polite nor helping in friendly way. An Austrian
couple wants a room for a night. 'How much do you want to pay?' asks the Information lady. The Austrians have no idea and no answer. So the woman at the desk advertises an apartment for 80 Euros in Central Town. 'That's much', both costumers are a bit shocked. 'But I asked you first, how much you want
pay! So I give you place for 50 Euros, but it’s far away from the City!' |

In the afternoon I take the bus five Kilometres back to the
City for sixty cents, walk around till I get hungry for a restaurant.
Refreshed my feet walk up to the Thermal Bath. The place is very old. The
cabins to change cloths have no doors anymore. Therefore the entrance is
only 3 Euros. The water basin is outside in fresh air. Two digital thermometers announce 10 degrees outside 29 degrees Celsius inside the water. Back by bus at night it starts freezing. Saturday morning I leave Savod and park in Central City of Karlsbad. I pay to stay for four hours and discover the incredible richness of the Imperial Houses like 'Grandhotel Pupp'. Many advertisings in Cyrillic letters proof that these Russians have entered the kingdom of capitalism. By cable train I drive 100 meters higher and study the beauty of the city from this bird's perspective. When I return to the car it's time to pay for more time to stay, to eat a delicious trout and to leave Karlsfeld back to Franzesbad. For another night I pay on a public place, book four hours the 32 degrees Celsius warm waters of the ‘Aquaforum’ and before another night in Mima's 'Sea Cow' it's a joy for dinner in the next restaurant. I can afford these prices in Czech much easier than in Italy or Germany. |
